Eileen noticed that Jean did not seem to be comfortable with the friendliness she showed toward the teen. "Is there something you don't like about our waiter, Jean?"
"No, of course not. He seems very nice, and he does his job very well. It's just that… well, he reminds me of Todd; the way he was when I first met him. I don't think I could ever trust anyone like that again."
"Does that mean you're through with Todd?" Eileen asked. She realized she was probably acting just a little too excited at the prospect.
"I don't know, Eileen. I just don't know. But I wish you wouldn't be quite so friendly with… that guy. You almost act as if you… well, as if you think he's attractive."
"Of course he's attractive. All the guys they hire here are attractive. I try to be friendly with all the summer people. There's nothing weird about that, is there?" Eileen was feeling hostile. She didn't like the suggestion of criticism in Jean's voice.
Jean tried to soothe her friend. "I'm sorry, Eileen. I must be getting obnoxious. It's just that… I guess I'm missing Todd."
Eileen patted her friend's head. Since the time she had watched Jean playing with herself, it was impossible for Eileen to touch her without feeling a jolt of desire. She felt that now. It destroyed her anger. She saw Jean watching Luke move from one task to another. There was a wistful sadness on her face.
The brunette realized it would be foolhardy of her to confide her passion to Jean, at least at this time. The younger woman was too sensitive on the subject Eileen would have to keep he passion to herself.
But she was too horny to wait any longer for another rendezvous with Randy. Before they left the restaurant, she managed to slip the teen a note: "Come by the cottage at two tonight. Wait for me to let you in. Every minute will seem an eternity. Love, E."
As soon as they got back to her cottage, Eileen told Jean she was going to have to make an early night of it, Jean said she was tired too. They parted company for their own rooms.
