Напомним, что книга создавалась в 1789-1790 гг. и отражает коренное изменение философских взглядов Блейка от условно называемых "христианскими" (представленных в ранних стихотворениях и "Песнях Невинности") к условно"натуралистическим" (доминирующим в "Песнях Опыта"). Блейк приходит к мысли, что Добро невозможно без Зла, ибо Добро (Порядок, Рассудок, Небо) пассивно, подчинительно, а Зло (Энергия, Воображение, Ад) - созидательно. Только взаимодействие обоих начал образует естественный порядок вещей, и одно немыслимо без другого.
