`What a remarkable phenomenon (какое замечательное явление/феномен),' said the Professor of Ornithology (сказал Профессор Орнитологии) as he was passing over the bridge (когда он проходил по мосту). `A swallow in winter (ласточка зимой)!'

And he wrote a long letter about it (и он написал об этом длинное письмо; to write (wrote, written)) to the local newspaper (в местную газету).
